Belly Dance Shows

Belly Dance shows vary in length, quality and content. I would recommend choosing at least dance shows to give you the feel of how different each dancer is. Each has their own style and creates their own unique show. You can go on a Nile Cruise, to an upmarket nightclub, Cairo cabaret or to a seedy downtown club. Check the times. A lot of the shows include really late nights ...... most of the Nile cruises have a choice of an earlier or later sailing. Being in Cairo though, I would recommend you adapt to a later lifestyle!

Nile Maxim

5 Star boat with Nile Cruise, Dinner and Show. Various dancers. Currently Randa (Egyptian), occasionally Leila (American) and others. It used to be Asmahan's (Argentinian) regular gig but she stopped dancing in Cairo last year. There is an open buffet for starters - then a choice of main courses. The salad starters are fabulous, the main courses OK. Randa is who I try and see here - a powerhouse - her performance is electric. Much admired by foreign dancers, she is not as popular amongst Egyptians. A dancer's dancer. Leila is also wonderful. Her style is much softer than Randa. She has a stunning elegance that holds you spellbound. I get the front tables - and it is a good dance floor for a performance. Early and later sailings.

Nile Pharon
4 Star boat with Nile Cruise, Dinner and Show. Leila (American), Lorna (Scottish) and various others perform on the Nile Pharon. The boat is great - over the top Pharonic tat!!!! You have to be there to appreciate it. The performance space is only small and the dancer has to work the tables. Some of the boats have 2 levels so the dancer has to work both levels. A shorter dance show than on the other boats but the chance to boogie. A good hot buffet with plenty of choice. Early and later sailings.

Marriott Nightclub
A 5 Star Nightclub with delicious food. The dancer is Soraya (Brazillian) - a petite package of dynamite. A really good show - you get your moneys worth - as long as she turns up. There have been occasions when folks have been told she is dancing and she hasn't appeared. Not with my groups though!!! A plush venue - service is slow. And the air conditioning fierce. No point going before 11pm.

Lucy is the dancer here. Her husband owns this cabaret nightclub. She is also an actress and singer. Her show is long ..... it is Entertainment. She does various sets, has several singers (including herself) and treats the audience as if they are her pals round for dinner. She likes to get a table of foreigners up on stage. She rarely dances before 2.30am - and sometimes you don't get out till 6am! A bit of an endurance test! Completely different to any other Cairo experience.

El Leil
Cabaret nightclub on Harem. A range of really good bands and the chance to boogie. Currently Aziza dances here. She is Egyptian and well worth seeing. Cabarets are different to other venues and something I would recommend you try. The entrance price here includes dinner - though I think vegetarians are poorly catered for. No point going before midnight.

Downtown cabaret nightclub. A different calibre to the ones mentioned. This has no named dancers ...... the band is loud ... but not particularly tuneful!! I would recommend earplugs. The girls vary in ability. It is the seedier side of the entertainment business. I wouldn't go by myself but, as a group, it can be a really good night. And it is just round the corner from our hotel. No point going before midnight.

Mena House Nightclub
Often have a dance show and dinner. The dancer changes regularly. We can check who is on if this is somewhere you would like to go to. It is a fabulous hotel by the pyramids with a wonderful gold foyer. The sightlines in the nightclub are not great.

Ramses Hilton
Hassan Hassan Folklore show. Absolutely fabulous. Good all round family entertainment. Even if you are not interested in Bellydance, you will be entertained by this show. It is my highly recommended show of the year!!! A mixture of folk styles, comedy tableaux, great audience interaction and some belly dance. The evening includes a meal which is good .... but nothing to get overly excited about (unlike the show!). Finishes by midnight.
